SE&SA – Friend or Foe?
Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance (SE&SA) have both become core disciplines in the delivery of rail projects across Australia. Still, they are often seen as a black art and a bolt-on rather than an integral part of the delivery process.
The rapid growth of both disciplines has been significant, but it has come at a cost. With so many projects requiring
SE&SA there has not been the experienced resources to support the need. While there have been a lot of talented individuals entering the industry, there has not been the experienced leadership to provide the guidance and direction.
While well-intentioned, often the practice has not been applied as intended or has resulted in over-burdensome processes as people have fallen back on compliance rather than intelligent application. This can lead to excessive costs and delays and damage the perception of these disciplines.
The SE&SA team at ARCH Artifex is on a mission to change this. They have adopted a mindset of adding real value to their clients through the pragmatic delivery of SE&SA in projects. They work collaboratively with their clients to understand their needs and propose solutions that meet their requirements but do not burden them with unnecessary costs or demands on resources. By thinking about what’s needed to achieve the outcome, it is always possible to tailor the process only to do what is required to get it done, and no more.
At the presentation the team from ARCH Artifex will talk you through the basics SE&SA, give you an understanding of their purpose and what they can achieve when done well. They will also give you examples of some typical pitfalls and tips on what you can do to avoid them. Don’t miss this opportunity to get the inside track on these two disciplines, learn what good really looks like and take home some essential tips, so you don’t fall into some of the traps and let SE&SA be your friend.
